<br /><br /> <br /><br /> <br />Hauppauge, NY (May 10, 2007): On Saturday June 2, 2007,10:30am Terry Road in front of the Hauppauge Fire Department Sub-Station 2 will be renamed for firefighter Peter Brennan. Peter a member of FDNY Rescue Company 4 was lost while he and 342 of his brother firefighters were performing valiantly at Manhattan Box 5-5 8087 (World Trade Center). Mr. Brennan joined the Lakeland Volunteer Fire Department at 16 serving for several years before transferring to the Hauppauge Volunteer Fire Department were he served as the 2nd Lieutenant of Company 1. It was his dream to be a firefighter, even while he was a New York City police officer for several years. (Walking a beat in Queens, he rescued an elderly couple from an apartment fire.) Early in the year of 2001 Peter assisted at a fire in Ronkonkoma and helped save three trapped firefighters. For this, Peter was awarded the title of Volunteer Firefighter of the Year. A dinner to honor Peter was to be held in November 2001; instead, they had a dinner to memorialize him. "He died doing what he loved at probably the greatest fire he'd ever been to," said his wife, Erica Brennan. "I can see him on the truck being excited on the way." Local leaders and volunteers from the American Association of University Women (AAUW) Islip Area Branch were recognized this weekend at the AAUW NYS Convention in Saratoga Springs for their dedication to AAUW’s mission “to advance equity for women and girls through advocacy, education and research.”
